Food Service Worker (4 hours per day/Part-Time)
Job Description
Purpose: The Food Service Cook/Cold Prep. Prepares a full range of food and baked products for school lunches and snacks. Assist in maintaining food safety and cleanliness of all food service areas.
Reports To: Food Service Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Salary: Hourly wages and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or vocational school equivalent.
- Basic Math skills and ability to apply weights, measures, and amounts in recipes.
- Proficient customer service skills.
- Proficient knowledge of commercial food preparation, equipment, and food safety.
- Health and Inoculation Certification on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made).
General Functions:
- Assist in the food preparation.
- Ensure all activities conform to District, community and KSDE guidelines.
- Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
- React to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned.
- Have knowledge concerning the appropriate operation of all kitchen equipment.
- Implement the vision and mission of the District.
- Observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
- Implement and follow all District health and safety policies.
- Regular attendance is required of all employees subject to allowed leave in accordance with district policy or negotiated agreement, as appropriate. Excessive absences or tardiness, unauthorized leave or unexcused absences may result in disciplinary action including termination of employment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assist the food service site manager in food service operations.
- Prepare food items to be served in planned quantities at a stated time.
- Follow written and verbal instructions.
- Know and practice basic principles of quantity food cookery.
- Practice proper operation of equipment to assure safety and avoid damage to equipment.
- Clean and sanitize equipment properly.
- Follow standardized recipes carefully; weigh and measure food ingredients accurately.
- Maintain a clean work area.
- Assist with service as needed, using established portion control standards.
- Practice good personal hygiene and food safety.
- Prepare accurate time sheets for each pay period. Come to work everyday and on time.
- Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the Food Service Site Manager.

- Required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend for extended periods of time. As well as the ability to reach overhead.
- Must be able to work in extreme temperatures.
- Able to work with and be exposed to odors, chemicals, and a noisy environment.
- Must use hands and fingers in a repetitive manner.
- Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to lift, pull, and/or push up to 50 pounds.
