Job Description
The job description listed below is designed to provide a general outline of the expectations of a Atchison High School Secretary (12-month) in USD 409. As such the description should not be interpreted as all encompassing or inclusive.
Title: Atchison High School Secretary/Treasurer – Twelve Month
Purpose: The High School Secretary provides office and clerical support to assist with the efficient operation of the school district. To accomplish these tasks, the High School Secretary works closely with the staff and administration of the district. This position is a non-exempt position according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Responsible to: Building Principal(s)
FLSA Status: Non-exempt, hourly
Payment rate: $15.25-18.25 per hour
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- High level of competence with software, systems, and all applicable devices
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Suite and/or Google Suite of products
- Willingness to learn new skills and systems, federal and state reports, and related areas
- High level of competence in math, writing, grammar, and sentence structure as well as effective written and verbal communication
- Basic knowledge of accounting and record-keeping
- Excellent interpersonal, customer services, and organizational skills
- Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks at one time efficiently and courteously.
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution in business administration or accounting
- 3 or more years of full-time experience accounting, finance, and/or payroll
- Knowledge of the business management software for schools
General Functions:
- Creating a warm and welcoming enviormnet for staff, students, and patrons who enter our school.
- Provide office and clerical support to assist with the efficient operation of the school district.
- Ensure all activities conform to District guidelines.
- Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
- React to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, and meeting deadlines as assigned.
- Operate all equipment appropriately as required.
- Work to implement the vision and mission of the District.
- Receive and relay various messages to students and staff.
- Screen visitors and telephone calls, directing them to the appropriate person/department.
- Screen and route incoming mail.
- Compose, type, and copy correspondence, reports, bulletins, records, and other materials.
- Obtain, gather, and organize data as needed.
- Maintain an orderly filing system.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, and report attendance problems to the Assistant Principal. Enter attendance into the computer.
- Maintain accurate student cumulative folders.
- Enroll students.
- Collect, report, and deposit money received by High School Offices and maintain account.
- Collect and maintain KSHSAA and USD 409 activity paperwork.
- Enter new students information in PowerSchool. Remove dropped students from PowerSchool.
- Assist at counter (admits, call slips, blue student passes, etc.)
- Answer phone, greating patron, studetns, and staff.
- Enrolling and preparing records for new students.
- Assist in duplicating and assembling programs, office forms, etc.
- Other duties as assinged by administartion

Terms of Employment: At will employment. 12-month 2,080-hour position.
