Atchison Public Schools is accepting applications for Head Custodian at Atchison High School. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office (after employment offer is made).
- Five years experience as a school custodian or the equivalent in custodial service in other institutions or firms.
- Knowledge in ground maintenance.
- Manually lift a maximum of 60 pounds.
- Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
- Knowledge of procedures for stripping and waxing floors.
- Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials, maximum of 60 pounds.
- Requires stooping, keeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching.
- Requires climbing and balancing.
- Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.
- Must be able to work in and around dust.
General Functions:
- Provide a safe, attractive, comfortable, and clean environment to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.
- Coordinate and supervise the activities of the custodial staff.
- Promote a caring, helpful attitude toward the staff, students, and patrons, and convey that attitude in all that he/she does.
- Supervise, motivate, and direct employees to develop to fullest potential.
- Ensure all activities conform to district guidelines.
- Communicate and work effectively and cooperative with members of the school district and community.
- React to changes and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Maintain a positive work attitude and show enthusiasm for work.
- Operate all equipment and machinery appropriately as required. Jewelry should not be worn when operating machinery.
- Work to implement the vision and mission of the District.
Essential Responsibilities:Receive, deliver, and store all school supplies.
- Receive, deliver, and store all school supplies.
- Set up for assemblies, preparing the cafeteria for lunch, moving school personnel and their equipment within the building.
- Assist in the cafeteria during lunch as instructed by the principal.
- Exercise appropriate judgment and initiative to handle emergency situations as they arise. Such things as spills, sick students, stopped-up stools that must be handled immediately and expeditiously, along with regular duties.
- Maintain a clean building.
- Building maintenance is a daily responsibility. The following maintenance needs should be identified as head custodian performs his/her regular duties and either corrected or reported to Director of Auxiliary Services.
- Electrical-Replacement of light bulbs
- Miscellaneous-Replacement of damaged ceiling tiles, minor locker repair, and snow removal on sidewalks
- Each building has been issued tools/equipment to facilitate the above custodial duties. The head custodian will be responsible for keeping accurate, current inventory records of the assigned tools/equipment, and will be held accountable for the loss of assigned tools/equipment.
- The head custodian is the custodial team leader and must instruct his/her employees as to duties and techniques, communicate with them daily, constructively critique their work, and evaluate their performance.
- Implement the wishes of the school principal to facilitate the smooth operations of the school program.
- Maintain grounds, mowing, and trimming to conform to District standards.
- Observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
- Respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner.
- Keep student and personnel information records confidential.
- Implement and follow all health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Blood Borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Assist with the set up, movement, and relaocation of funiture within the buidling.
- Ability to perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the principal, Custodial Supervisor, or other administrative staff.
- Regular attendance is required of all employees subject to allowed leave in accordance with district policy or negotiated agreement, as appropriate. Excessive absences or tardiness, unauthorized leave or unexcused absences may result in disciplinary action including termination of employment.
